MOMENT is an international research project that aims to transform maternity care by supporting the implementation of midwifery-led models within primary healthcare systems.
Through research, co-creation and policy engagement, MOMENT contributes to more integrated, equitable and sustainable perinatal care.
MOMENT (Empowering Perinatal Care: Implementation Strategies for Midwifery-Led Models in Primary Healthcare Systems) is a 36-month project bringing together partners from Belgium, Portugal, Spain and Canada. The project focuses on bridging the gap between evidence and real-world implementation of midwifery-led care.
The overall aim of MOMENT is to support healthcare providers and policymakers with evidence, tools and strategies for the sustainable integration of midwifery-led care models across diverse healthcare systems.
Why this project matters: Although strong evidence shows that midwifery-led care improves outcomes for women and babies, its adoption remains uneven across healthcare systems. Many countries face organisational, cultural and policy barriers that limit implementation. MOMENT addresses these challenges by developing practical, evidence-based strategies for integration.
